This Nike SB Dunk draws inspiration from the growth cycle of these fiery little peppers—from mini and mild to mature and spicy. The premium leather upper smolders in Saffron Quartz, Buff Gold and Pear hues to represent the progression of heat. A custom sockliner and heel embroidery put a scorching finish on the iconic skate shoe.
Shifting locales from the West Coast to the Southwest, for those not horticulturally or culinarily inclined, rather than being a specific species of pepper, the hatch chile is an earnest pride point for the state of New Mexico, as only those cultivated in the Hatch Valley can be sold under that moniker.
Though the pepper comes in red and green varieties, Nike leans on the latter, outfitting the SB Dunk Low in a tri-tone blend of pale green, khaki, and yellow, likely reflective of the New Mexico state flag.
