Dan Mancina is, first and foremost, a skateboarder. A skateboarder who happens to be visually impaired, though this was not always the case. Dan grew up skateboarding quite proficiently before being diagnosed with RP at age thirteen on the heels of a routine eye exam. Managing the loss of his sight on all levels has been no easy task, though Dan has taken it in strides, flipping a negative into a positive for himself and so many others.
Dan has earned his Master's degree in Vision Rehabilitation Therapy (VRT) and founded a 501c3 non-profit called Keep Pushing Inc., which teaches adaptive life skills to those dealing with vision loss and acts as an entry point to adaptive skateboarding for visually impaired (VI) skateboarders. In all these pursuits, Dan has proven that impossible is nothing.
As a visually impaired skateboarder, a shoe's fit, feel, and function are essential to Dan Mancina. With a durable yet luxe upper constructed of premium suede and oiled nubuck, the material mix and attention to detail on his signature Busenitzare noticeable to the touch. The side profile features a red and white reflective three-stripe execution inspired by his cane, and the shoe’s iconic tongue is finished with Dan’s name in braille lettering across the top.
